Dragons

Images of dragons are often found in medieval Jewish manuscripts. What is the relation between Jewish religious writings (such as a prayer book or Haggadah) and dragons? Absolutely nothing. But dragons were prominent in the medieval imagination, and this prominence is reflected on the pages of both Jewish and Christian manuscripts. These images attest to the fact that Jews did not live in isolation from their Christian neighbors. On the contrary, they occupied the same cultural and imaginative worlds, as common images such as dragons make clear.
